How Do I correctly pick up my chinchilla?

I mean picking up my chinchilla in my home. ( I own one). Also where shouldnt I grab him to pick him up. I dont want to hurt him

put both hands under its belly,
support its feet,
then keep it close to you so they feel secure.

do you mean at a store or just holding it?
Holding: let it sniff the back of your hand, stroke it, then slowly scoop it up
