How do I fix my Google Voice Search app on Android?

I have the Google Voice Search app on Android and it says I am supposed to be able to call and text people from that. When I say, "call [insert name here]", it searches "call [insert name here]" or something that sounds like their name instead of calling them. When I say, "send text to [insert name here] ... Hey." It puts their name in the text instead of addressing the text to them. I have looked on YouTube and watched the Help video for it and still don't know what to do. Please help.

Hold down the search button to launch the voice search

Press "Help"

Browse through the 11 different "Voice Actions" and each gives you an example of how to structure your voice command.
(There's a video to watch, but it might be the video you've already seen)
