It needs to both be in the right format AND in the ringtones folder/section. Then you can select it as a ringtone. You cannot just select 'any' music even though it is in the right format for a ringtone. Google or Youtube "how to load a ringtone on iphone 4" if you are still having issues, see Apple communities https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3792
