How do I get my 12 week old son to take naps without screaming?

I know he needs much more sleep than he's gettting. He barely gets 8 hours over a 24 hour period, if that...which leaves him pretty fussy at times. He will literally scream himself to sleep while I hold him and I just keep "shushing" or put on a white noise cd to try to help. He will eventually fall asleep but it never lasts long. He was sleeping for a longer stretch at night (approx. 6 hours) for about one and a half weeks but when my husband and I did the happy dance and bragged about it, it seemed to stop right then and there. When we swaddle him, although he still screams for at least 15 to 20 minutes and we have to wait a good half hour after he falls asleep to even attempt to put him down, it does seem to help. But he is a big boy and getting harder and harder to swaddle. He gets his hands out a lot sooner now and will wake himself up. I did discover that he was having night terrors during the daytime only (for some reason) and now I know that he was indeed terrified to go to sleep. I've worked with a hypnotherapist and he has not had any episodes since but still hates going to sleep. I've tried white noise, delta sleep, nature sounds, classical music, relaxation and meditation cds but nothing seems to help. I don't care if he wakes up several times during the night (although I find it odd that he was sleeping through for a short while and then stopped), I just want him to get the sleep he requires to develop and grow and be a happier baby. Has anyone ever ran into this problem? Does anyone have any suggestions?

[QUOTE="Talon, post: 1577984, member: 459847"] My son has never liked to sleep from the moment he was born. But it's getting progressively worse instead of better. When I talk to any of the professionals about it (ie. doctors, health care nurses, midwives, etc.) they all just laugh and say "Oh, how cute, he doesn't want to miss a thing." I know he needs much more sleep than he's gettting. He barely gets 8 hours over a 24 hour period, if that...which leaves him pretty fussy at times. He will literally scream himself to sleep while I hold him and I just keep "shushing" or put on a white noise cd to try to help. He will eventually fall asleep but it never lasts long. He used to fall asleep in his bouncer, swing, comfort station, etc. but now he's on to me and he will play and entertain himself and then scream when he feels his eyes getting heavy. I've tried to sit right next to him and talk to him while he falls asleep and this worked for a short time but now he will not stop.
