Both phones use iDEN technology, both have walkie-talkie buttons and are Motorola phones. The Boost mobile phone and SIM are new and have been activated. The Nextel Motorola Buzz+ ic602 phone is a whole lot nicer. It is a little older and isn't in service.
When I tried the Boost SIM in the Nextel phone, it read on screen: "Insert correct SIM. Sim card does not match stored account information." Do I need a special code, can it be unlocked, etc?

Even though Boost is owned by Sprint/Nextel you have to get an unlock code because it is branded. Same reason you can't use a AT&T card in a branded T-Mobile and so on.

Cell phone providers don't want you to be able to buy any phone and use it on their network for a variety of reasons so they prefer to sell you locked phones.

You can buy an unlock code, which is probably the safest way to go. To be honest as it isn't currently a popular phone you probably won't find an unlock procedure for free. Find a website that offers a code, most likely $10, just search "Motorola Buzz unlock code." Good Luck
