how do i help my ferret?!?

i think he is really bored. I play with him when I get the chance of course at least once each day for about a half hour and then I let him roam my bedroom for a while. He was sick for a few months and so he isn't fully energized again. e keeps biting his Cage bars together, making a gap, and sneaking out of it. I feel bad leaving him in his cage so I don't Block it off and I keep my door shut so he can't go anywhere. What can I do to keep him busy? also, how can I fatten him up? When he was sick he lost ALOT of weight and is now skin and bones. i have been giving him baby food but I don't want to give him too much. Thanks =)
