I don't know what to do after I uncompressed it (just double clicked and put it on my desktop). There is no readme and all I see is a bunch of files and folders.
I would install from the repositories but I don't have internet access in ubuntu. :(

I recommend installing Gnome-do through Synaptic which includes it instead of installing from the tar.gz file. tar.gz is the source file (and usually without dependencies. It is not an independent .deb package, it is part of the gnome-do deb package and should be installed that way if at all. I have messed up my system by installing from source -- badly enough to have to reinstall. Distros tend to fiddle with the code for the Operating System and packages so use theirs first.

tar is very hard for a normal person to work with either try the first guys thing or find it in the package manager if possible
