how do i put ringtones on my sandisk memory card?

I'm trying to get .mp3 clips that I put on my memory card to work as ringtones on my sanyo katana eclipse. Which folder do they have to go into, how do I set them as ringtones, and is .mp3 the correct format?
I'm using a mac
