How do I set up file sharing b/w my desktop with XP Pro and laptop with XP Home?

When my laptop and desktop both had XP Home, i was able to set up a network and allow file sharing b/w them with ease. Now that my desktop has XP Pro, I haven't been able to get the network/file sharing to function at all. One of my friends is also experiencing the same problem. Can anyone offer tips that can solve this issue? Thanks.
 
Go to my network places, set up a home and small network, fill everything out, make sure you turn on file and printer sharing, and then the computer restarts and there you have it!
