How do I stop my boyfriend from whining about nothing?

He keeps talking about the same thing. He gets irritated by everyday problem and keeps whining about them. He also has a paranoia problem. I told him to appreciated his life because he has what many other people dont. He listened to it, but then again the complaining began. Then today I asked him to see a psychologist and he thought I was being rude and mean. I said it softly like a caring girlfriend. He has been whining about his 2001 chevy malibu for 2 months now because he thinks it will "someday in the future: will give him problem, but its totally fine with low mileage. Before that the complaint was about his ford focus. There has been no decent chat between us about other stuff for 4 months now. How should I tell him without hurting him that he needs to stop going in circle about the same thing?

I've learned that some people will complain about every little inconvenience they face in life. This is usually a result of being coddle from an early age. So trying to change this behavior that has been ingrained in him since an early age will probably be difficult. I would keep doing what you are doing now and remind him that life isn't so bad.

In the end we can't save people from themselves. If it's bothering you too much I suggest finding a new bf that appreciates life.

people who focus and whine on about nothing fall into one of 2 categories

1 - they are just attention seeking
2 - they are covering an underlying problem, and focusing on stuff that doesn't matter, detracts from the real problem

find out which one he is
i couldn't sit and listen to that i'm afraid
sounds like a bratty child
that's soul destroying to any person

2 months over something that MIGHT happen
sheesh
he needs to grow up and live in the real world
and soon before he looses you
99% of people would have walked away before now

we all have enough crap in our lives, REAL crap we HAVE to deal with without inviting more in

I think you need to be straight with him and let him know that his making problems out of nothing is having a negative affect on your life and that it is not normal or healthy for him either and that if he doesn't get help, you will have to take a step back from the relationship to find your own happiness and sense of well being.
