How do I synch my TMobile Sidekick Slide to Windows Media Player?

My computer is acknowledging that The Sidekick is connected yet the "Start Synch" tab is grey and cannot be clicked. WMP is sayibg "connect a device".
Any help would be appreciated. I'm trying to synch some songs for my 14 y.o. nephew.
