How do I talk to a girl in class you sit next to?

I sit next to a girl in one of my classes and I like her, we don't really talk. We have no mutual friends really but we are somewhat friends. No I do not have her #, we're not that close. How can I talk to her? What are some basic topic/ conversations to start with her, since we barley have any friendship?
 
ask her about homework or make fun of the teacher. Make your friendship classroom related first then you will become better friends and talk about different things eventually.
 
Tell her there is something wrong with your cell phone and does she know how to fix it and when she asks what is wrong with it tell her "it doesn't have your number in it" as far as topics to conversate about, you have a class together, talk about the work, talk about the teacher, talk about other teachers or classes that you have in common.
