How do I turn OFF 3G coverage on the Nokia E71x from AT&T?

I recently got an AT&T Nokia E71x. Unfortunately, AT&T coverage SUCKS!!! Too many people have bought iPhones and the network is overwhelmed in my area (Vail, CO). The phone shows 4-6 bars of coverage with 3G, but any attempt to make calls or send texts gets a "network busy" or "connection error" message. This area gets very busy with travelers over the holidays, but to have no service for over a week is unacceptable!

Unfortunately, I signed my life away for 2 years when I got the phone. Is there a way to turn off 3G? I've heard if you turn off the 3G and use EDGE network, a connection can be made. I don't know how to do it on the Nokia E71x.

Sounds to me like theres something wrong with your phone not the coverage. if you have bars then there is no reason that it shouldnt be making the calls. I just bought a droid and had to return the first one because it wasnt recognizing the area codes. new smart phones always have some sort of glitches with them so take it back and get a new one.

I agree with the first answerer. I just looked at the AT&T map for your area and it's covered in service for EDGE and 3G so I'd take that phone to an AT&T store ASAP. Be a jerk if you have to because you are the customer and they need to make you happy!
