How do you find a plot for a book?

I need ideas. When I get one that I like, after a few days it seems really bad. I just can't anything done. My new years resolution was to begin planning out a novel. But I just can't find one. I've tried to just write and let something pop up but it doesn't work with me. I'm fine with characters and getting a whole story, but I just need an idea. And I'm fed up of writing fantasy. I ALWAYS WRITE FANTASY. And also deaths. I want to write something away from them. And not a horror. I couldn't do romance because I like, don't really do romance in real life. Please help me!
