How do you shop for and then pay for a studio/apartment when its on the other side of the country?

Ok, so I'm planning on moving across the whole country (Oregon to New York) and I was wondering, How do you get everything done? Do you have to take multiple trips across the country to get everything final and settled?

Try finding places on the internet. Make contact with the landlord and work out your deal.Craigs List is a great place to search.In your shoes, I might opt for a shared room situation so I could get settled in and figure out where the babes hang out, to see if that location is the best choice. Making a long term comittment long distance for a place is a bit of a crap shoot.
