how do you upload pictures from verizon cosmos to computer?

i have a verizon cosmos, no data plan, unlimited texting for verizon customers and 500 for non verizon customers. when i plug the usb into the computer, it doesnt recognize the cell phone but it starts charging the phone. i dont want to buy anything. i dont have a memory card.
