How does Higurashi for Nintendo DS works? (japanese gamers only please)?

I never played this game before so I would be glad if any Japanese who had played this game can explain this to me in english about the game what is that circle rainbow thing that you have to choose a option with? and what are the options below the screen besides the red arrow button? this game was never released in my country I know this game is a sound novel but what makes me wonder is what are those buttons below? and what is the tip that shows up on screen sometimes? please check out these two videos I posted they contain parts of my question I hope this helps anyway I only like the DS Higurashi game because I don't think some of these options are in the computer versions right? I am not sure about playstation 2 but I only know the DS one.
