How does the quote “hear me for my cause, and be silent...." appeal to ethos?

“Hear me for my cause, and be silent, that you may hear: believe me for mine honor, and have respect to mine honor, that you may believe" I don't understand how this appeals to ethos, can someone enlighten me on what it exactly means?
