Isn't that illegal? What are they and how do people use them? What are they used for mostly?
this stuff is confusing....

First you download a program like uTorrent, then you go to a torrent site and find a program that you want. You will be downloading a file through uTorrent from a person's personal computer, who happens to have whatever you are looking for. Since you are downloading from a complete stranger, you don't know if the file is illegal or filled with viruses. The reason people use torrents is because they get stuff for free. Torrents are p2p programs, just like Limewire, Frostwire, and Bearshare.

As for the legality, they are only illegal if the items being downloaded are copyrighted files such as music, movies, games, etc.

Other then that it's used for downloading certain general files.
