How inactive should i keep my dog?

I recently "adopted" a dog(german shepherd) with heart worms and he undergoing treatment. The guy i got him from said to keep him inactive b/c of the worms and the treatment. What does "inactive" mean? No running/walks or more extreme to keeping him in the house all the time?

inactive is no running or walking he can walk but it cant be for to long.
just a little walk for him to do his necessities.
