How is Boukreev pronounced?

I am confused. I read The Climb by Anatoli Boukreev, then I watched Into Thin Air, based on a book by John Krakauer. He pronounced the name "boo-kreev", but my friend says it's "boo-KRAY-ev".

i would like to know the correct pronunciation.
