I have a PS3 so i do own a Blue Ray player but how long do you guys think it will be before Blue Ray is the only Format?

I just dont see too much of an advance between Standard DVD and Blue Ray. i understand that Blue Ray has a much higher capacity then SD DVD but besides Blue Ray you also need a HDTV + the necessary cables. it just seems to me like Blue Ray does not have enough advantage over SD DVD to
succeeded it anytime soon.

When SD DVD first came out in 1997 it had several advantages over VHS, not only did it look better then VHS but it also was alot lighter and alot less bulky then a VHS cassette, there was also no upgrade invovled (such as having to upgrade from SDTV to HDTV), and even then it wasn't the dominent format until the end of 2003. thats more then 6 years until it actually beat VHS in sales and it has alot more advantage over VHS then BlueRay has over DVD.

So how much time do you really think it will take BlueRay to beat out DVD?

It'll be a very long time before Blu-ray will beat out SD DVD (if ever) eventually HDTV's will drop significantly in price to make them easily available to everyone.

blueray still uses DVD format. Maybe what you're talking about is HDDVD, which is Blueray's sole competitor. But early this year HDDVD lost to disc war. Blueray emerged as the winner.
