the dirt on Brown's handwriting? Brown claims he did NOT mis-spell the dead soldier's name, and The Sun claims he did.
There's something deeply suspicious about that whole story; who are we to believe, the Prime Minister or that Bums-and-Tits-Rag, The Sun.?

personally, if it was my son that had been killed, which could happen as he is in Afghanistan now, the last thing i would be bothered about would be the misspelling of a letter. i don't think i would even be in a fit state to notice.

Katrina is right. On a human level, I would rather get a semi-legible handwritten note from the PM himself than a typed message written and sent by a minion.

I think he is suffering a genuine attack of remorse for not allocating sufficient funds to fight a pretty difficult operation against the Taliban. Cutting back on helicopters to transport the wounded quickly back to camp cost that lady her son, and she is understandably cross about it.

As for the name - Jamie Janes. Anyone who is not a word anorak with Vulcan self-discipline would struggle not to say "Janie James"!

I completely understand his difficulties due to his disability.

I think it admirable that he takes the time to handwrite a letter, and think this argument has gone too far.
There is different stages to grief and this mother is at the anger stage. She is obviously out of it at the moment, and I will not criticise her, but feel that Gordon DID take the time to write to her personally, no other party leader has done this!
And the Sun paper should be totally ashamed of their lack of morality in using this woman's vulnerability to make money on their paper - and get her to illegally record someones conversation!!
