How much money should be enough while travelling to Istanbul for a week?

Well I will be visiting Istanbul, Turkey for a week in mid March this year. I have done the hotel reservations and the tickets. Now the hotel includes bed & breakfast as usual. Just want to know how much money would I require for a week to go around the city, eating out & some shopping.
If you could give me an estimate in US $. (Should i have travelleres cheques instead of cash?)
I was thinking of something like a 1000 US $ ... is it enough ?
