Several months ago, I had a relative who went through treatment. Unfortunately, that relative not only took advantage of me financially but also lied many times over. Rather than confronting my relative directly, I took it as a lesson learned, found a second job, and worked hard to get back to where I was. I ended up borrowing money from a second relative and I've paid it back in full. The problem is that this relative warned the person whom the first moocher is currently living with. As a result, I've had several calls from remaining family members and despite the fact that it's not their business, I've had to defend myself because I'm supposedly "lying." My grandmother is quite upset and will most likely expect me to apologize to the mooch. However, I can't do it. Whatever mistakes I made, I've taken responsibility for them and I don't deserve to be treated as if I'm the "bad guy." What should I do? How far do I allow this to go?
