how much would it cost to add another layer of paint to my 2002 mitsubishi lancer?

i have a 2002 mitsubishi lancer. the car is a dark gray charcoal color. my car has many small scratches just throughout the paintjob and it no longer has that smooth finish that newer cars have. if i was to spray a new layer on the car would that get rid of all the scratches and make the car paint completely smooth? and also what would an average price be for this to happen and about how long do you think i would have to go without my car while having it painted. thanks in advance
 
You would be suprised at how much rubbing compound and some buff can do. Have someone look at it first. You might not need paint as bad as you think.
