How safe is Rogers Park between Jarvis and Howard?

I found a (seemingly) great apartment on one of those lakeside side streets off of Sheridan. I want to sign for it. I really liked the place, and those little side streets west of Sheridan seem pretty quiet. Am I correct in this assumption? I've been reading a lot about the area. I'm not so worried about the area around my building, per se, but at what time should I not walk to the Jarvis stop alone? Where should I park my car? Or rather, where should I NOT park my car?
