How sharp would a slightly sharpened blade be in Martial Arts?

I'm wanting to buy a Naginata for practice in Martial Arts finding an unsharpened blade is nearly impossible, so I'll settle for a slightly sharpened blade. But I'm wondering if it's possible to accidentally cut yourself with a slightly sharpened blade. If I dropped it on a mat, would it make a hole in the mat? (My instructor sure wouldn't be happy with that).

depends on the mats...but yes you could cut yourself...so better get a wooden sword/dagger instead...less likely to actually cut yourself with or do as much damage with...note wooden weapons can still kill a person

You could find someone to handcraft a canvas sheath for the blade to nerf some of the danger. You'll still have to be wary of the tip though.
