I am trying to do brakes on my 95 Accord, and step 1 is to remove the spindle nut, and I am stuck right there. I broke an 18" breaker bar (with a 3 ft cheater) trying to turn it off and I know I will break another one if I try it again. I used PB blaster for DAYS and it won't loosen. I have unstaked the nut, so that's not the problem, I don't think. I also have tried heating the nut with a torch and it did nothing. I'm at wit's end! I'm tempted to see if a local mechanic will be able to loosen them with a torque wrench but I don't think someone will be able to and to be honest I think they will not want to do that for me even if I give them $20 to do it.
At this point I'm thinking of breaking the nut but it's a HUGE one. I can't find a nut splitter that will fit a nut this huge (36 mm) so it seems my last chance is a cold chisel and a heavy hammer, but if I do that, won't I damage the spindle and/or the transmission (front-wheel drive) by hitting so hard? What else can I do?
