How to accelerate my Internet speed and how to accelerate downloading speed ?

as I am living in outer Jeddah, There is no DSL, Broadband, 3G connection/signal are not available.
We are getting only GPRS signal and very occasionaly getting EDGE signal. I feel the speed is very poor.
please suggest some to software to accelerate my internet.
