MOV file format is a multimedia container file that contains one or more tracks which is primary codec used by QuickTime multimedia which developed by Apple Computer for both Mac and Windows.

Brand Camcorders like Canon, Panasonic, Sony, JVC etc always record HD video in AVCHD.mts file formats which can not be natively accepted by Quicktime. So if you like to play your AVCHD camcorder video using Quicktime player, just convert AVCHD files to mov before.
