How to hotwire my 1978 Jeep cj5?

how can i start my 78 CJ5 without the key....the gears in the column have 2 teeth broken off so the key switch (new) will not rotate them to start the jeep. Need to know if i can run a hot wire to start it with out burning up the electrical system...and how to kill it also. Thanks for the help all.
