i have two pit bulls, a male that is 1 year and a female that is 8 months. They only see children for short periods of time or in passing and they are great with kids, they both kind of lay on their backs and let the kids pet them. My husband and i are going to be trying for kids soon and im not sure what i need to do to make this adjustment easier for my babies(my dogs) I dont want them to feel replaced or threatened by a new baby and i want them to know that this baby will be higher ranking than them. is it just instinct for them? I have TONS of experience with dogs i have just never had to add an additional family member into the pack

A baby's status in the pack is established by the way you treat him/her around the dogs. You may want to talk to a professional trainer about what specific issues your dogs have that need to be worked through, and try to get your dogs as much exposure to gentle, calm kids as you can. Honestly most dogs transition to a new baby pretty well so long as you don't neglect them in favor of the baby. If they are well-mannered and properly trained you should have nothing to worry about - they will take a cue from you on how to act.

a baby shouldnt be a problem but you should watch out
a pitbull can bite at any moment (i have three)

when my lil bro was born it wasnt a problem

ANY kind of dog will naturally become jelous of the attention your kids r getting... in all honesty u shouldnt have dogs in your household with kids. its a topic that often comes up in my household. an until mine are old enough 2 know how NOT 2 break a dogs temper (which young kids dont) then its a NO NO with me. why take the chance. they can get 1 when they r older lol
