If you have a male Jackie - and you are thinking about introducing a male puppy, you may, once the puppy reaches maturity be in for fireworks. Male Jackies are very territorial. If you have a b itch puppy, then you should be okay, given that she must be spayed before her first season. From my first-hand experience of living with these little people in the Boarding Kennel we were in for a few years (they bred them) their male was in there faster than a streak of lightening!
Whether this works or not is totally up to you to be in control. Adults don't normally attack puppies but unless they know you will be there to protect them from the sharp teeth of puppies, and unwanted muggings, the adult will react, maybe causing injury.. Set up an area for your older dog to go where he can't be mugged, for a time out. Once he knows you are in charge, he should settle down and bond with the puppy. You must be there most of the time to begin with as this relationship won't happen overnight.
Try it and see what happens. The jacket Russell shouldn't attack but he might get jealous as start peeing/pooing in the house or doing other naughty things.
