How to prevent BitTorrent from downloading when VPN tunnel is down?

I'm running BitTorrent v7.2 to download files from TPB.
I also use a VPN anonymizer service.
Sometimes this service goes down.
When this happens, BitTorrent continues to download without any protection.
Is there any way to configure BitTorrent to only download when the VPN tunnel is up?

Well, I don't watch the screen 24-7, sometimes once in a while I actually sleep :-)
