I've got an '03 Chev Tracker 2.0 inline where I've removed the thermostat, flushed it, circulated stopleak, flushed again, now I'm ready to install the thermostat and refill w/ antifreeze-mix.

The problem is this engine's thermostat is about 1/2 way up the side of the engine, at the point where the lower radiator hose attaches to the engine. The tiny bleed hole in the thermostat keeps the engine from being filled from the bottom hose. This engine's cooling system circulates thru the intake manifold, as well as the block & head. The engine won't take sufficient antifreeze when filling thru the top radiator hose. (The metal pipe goes all the way behind the engine.)

How do I hold the thermostat open temporarily while I refill with antifreeze? (I'd heard about blocking it open with aspirin tablets, but they crumble under the spring force.. as well as any tablets I have around here.) Other suggestions?

Or, I guess I'm open for other ideas...
