I have a 96 silverado that sat for 3 years because the transmission went out...when i went to start it it would turn over but not crank...
the plugs are sparking so i think its the fuel pump...
How do i check to make sure the fuel pump is working, i know you are supposed to listen for a humming sound but are there any other ways?
any polite tips on how to start the truck would be appreciated

Also its an automatic with a 350
the gas has been drained and and fresh gas put in as well as a new fuel filter

completely drain the old gas out , replace the fuel filter . add gas and check the fuel pump with a fuel pressure gauge..

The gasoline in the truck is no good!!!!!!
it must be drained completely out!!!!!!
pay for this to be done

on a lot of cars there is a test port rite on the fuel rail looks a lot like the valve stem u fill your tires thru if u see one just press down on the valve after you have turned the truck on giving the pump time to pressurize the line dont look into it when you press the valve down or you will get an unpleasant face full of gas just a quick lil tap and u will know if u have pressure have a rag handy to catch the spray if u dont have pressure check fuses before replaceing parts check gap on plugs can get a gauge for a buck or two most anywhere gap spec usually on emission tag under the hood add some new gas also i wouldnt imagine the gas being bad needing to be draind for any reason xcept water or any other forign liquid or substace has been put in it ive had one of my own sitn for 4 years w the same gas in it starts right up also use gas treatment and a fresh cupl gal of unleaded every now n then :)
