How to temporarily disconnect Internet from computer?

I have a virus that I want to delete and the removal instructions says to disconnect the Internet from the computer...... What is the most EASIEST way to diconnect from the Internet and easily reconnect after? (I don't know much about computers)
 
disconnect the ethernet cable then plug it back in when your done
 
im not 100% sure if this is the right answer. but i wouldn't feel safe unplugging anything, so what i do when i'm trying to kill a virus is do a lock down on my firewall when i'm doing a virus scan in mccafee. i could be wrong though!
 
Disable the network adapter (LAN or Wireless, whichever you are using) under your network Connections.
