The San Francisco Giants have trouble scoring runs. To help solve that issue, the Giants went out and acquired one of the biggest bats in the trade market. In a deal with the Philadelphia Phillies, San Francisco got Hunter Pence.

The 29-year-old Pence is hitting .271 this season with 17 homers, 59 RBIs and 59 doubles. That said, it’s actually a bad season for him so far. Last year, for example, he had a batting average of .314.

To get Pence, the Giants traded away outfielder Nate Schierholtz along with minor leaguers Tommy Joseph and Seth Rosin. The Phillies are obviously in a rebuilding mode and weren’t interested in bringing back Pence next season. Expect Schierholtz to immediately step in and play.
