Hyundai Accent 2001 Spring or Suspension problem?

It notice while I am driving and my rear wheel on the right side drives into a hole or some kind manhole on the road my rear side suspension does not restrain the hit and I can hear a very harsh smash sound.
what does it mean? is this the spring ? the suspension or the shock ?
and roughly how much money am I looking at to fix it?
