i want smaller community fish, and a variety of them, any ideas on how many fish it can hold, and what kinds i can keep? (no tetras, more mollies, those types of fish)

and yes i do have a proper setup such as a filtration system, heater, etc

Pair Dwarf Cichlid like Blue Ram. or German Ram. as your main fish
You could skip A sm. group of mid top level schooling fish like Neons, sm tetras, but they would look good as a background fish.
For bottom a schooling group of cory cats.

SWEET.

you can get a variety of glofish and zebra danios in your tank they can fit about 10 in your size tank but remember the babies.

in a 30 gallon i would have a look at getting mixed mollies plattys and a pleco
have you thought about getting some ghost shrimp and snails

Firstly, you need to consider other factors than the size. Do you have a heater and a filter? If so then you can get tropical fish.

Some of my favourites i have at home are:
Clown Loach
Kuhli Loach (looks like a mini eel)
Male Guppies (beautiful bright colours)
Bumblebee Goby (small fish that look like mini clown fish)
Glass catfish (completely see through fish)

Some higher care but beautiful tropical fish are:
Black Ghost Knife
Elephant Nose Fish
Black Shark (we had one - bought it at 3cm - grew to about 25cm so watch out!)
I also have a school of Zebra Danios, but they seem to fin nip each other alot.
