okay i have nooooooooo idea how a community college system works but i would like to get 15 college credits to learn radiography at a hospital. when i walk into a college tommorow what kind of questions should i ask and should i trust the advisor or is he/she another salesman?

oh and i have a ged ;)

First... you can't just walk into a community college and sign up for classes. You have to apply and be accepted first. When you walk in tomorrow, all you'll get is an application and, if you need them, forms for financial assistance. You won't even see an adviser until you're accepted and ready to register.

Second... you usually can't obtain a certification in anything with only 15 credits. That's only about 3 courses. You'll have to complete a radiography program, which generally consists of around 60 credits.

Third... the classes you take are dictated by your program of study. All you adviser will do is tell you which core classes are required, and which non-core classes you may choose to fulfill any general education requirements for your program. They're not there to sell you on "extra" classes.

Go to a Government Community College and see an advisor. They'll stear you in the right direction.

Well basically each class is worth about 2-4 credits, the ones with more are usually harder. I would suggest you take a course load of 10 credits to get you used to the whole college thing. I usually take one fluff class for every hard class I take. It makes it not seem so overwhelming. I know that you want to get this done as quickly as possible, but its far better to take your time and do good in all your classes then to get it over with all at once. It took me about 3 years to realize this, and now as a senior in college I think I have a hold on what I'm doing.

Your advisor just wants you to succeed and will suggest classes that you should take and in what order.
If he/she doesn't listen to you, then find someone that does - it took me a while to find an advisor that clicked, and now I pretty much know what I'm doing.

You can earn 15 credits in one semester. That is approximately 5 courses (many courses are worth 3 credits). An advisor usually isn't trying to get you to go to the school. They try to answer your questions as best they can. Much of the information they will tell you will be applicable to many schools.

But it sounds like you haven't made any appointments and you just plan to stroll on to campus and talk to someone. This usually won't work. Some schools are still on winter break. That means many faculty members are away. For the ones that are there, they usually have appointments and meetings all through out the day. If you haven't scheduled anything already, don't be surprised if you can't talk with anyone tomorrow.

admissions or a college adviser isn't going to talk you into going to college. Admissions office is there to give you info on the college and to help you with applying to the school. You can arrange a meeting with them ask about their radiology program and a tour of the campus. A college adviser is assigned to you once you apply and are accepted They will help you choose your classes and some with making your schedule.
