travelling alone.? Never been to NYC and I need to make a trip next month. Only criteria is that I need to make a day trip from Grand Central Station, so would like it either near, or easy to get to. Single female, never been to NYC so all advice and comments really welcome...

Thanks... Miss T

You don't say your price range, so I'll stick to hotels close to Grand Central Terminal.

Right next door, on E. 42nd is the Grand Hyatt. This is the grand old Commodore Hotel that Donald Trump bought and covered with glass and mirrors. It gets good reviews and has an excellent location, close to the IRT trains at Grand Central, and the crosstown busses on 42nd St.

A little farther uptown, in a neighborhood called Turtle Bay, you'll find a three hotels next to each other, on Lexington Ave in the 40's.

At 48th and Lex (SE corner) is the Radisson New York. At 49th and Lex (SE corner) is the Marriott East Side which is housed in a historic, landmarked building. Across 49th St, on the NE corner of 49th and Lex is the W New York. Keep in mind that this one may be the more expensive of the three.

If you are able to splurge a little bit, stay at the Bryant Park Hotel a 40 w. 40th St. This in in the Landmarked American Radiator Building which is an Art Deco gem. It's directly across 40th St from beautiful Bryant Park. It's location is great, a short walk from Grand Central to the east and Times Square to the west. The B, D, F and V trains are nearby. I believe this hotel tends to cater to the younger, trendy set.

Hope this info is helpful
