computer Kazaa,...? ...gnutella, and eDonkey and what
I understand these items can cause problems with internet traffic speed and I what to first identify they are there in my computer and how can I remove them and then prevent them from coming back

Yes they can slow your computer down but unless you installed them, chances are you don't have them. You can always check task manager to see what programs are running.

I've never seen any file sharing programs run in stealth mode but that doesn't mean that there isn't one that does that.

You could also go to Add/Remove programs and check there too but if you're computer is slow I'd suggest clearing your browser cache and optimizing your disk drive. There's a couple of great free programs to do that for you: CCleaner and MyDefrag

The programs you have mentioned are used to download files from the internet, more specifically from other people on the internet. The only reason that they would be causing your internet to "slow down" would be if they were left running, and were uploading some of your files to other people. If you have not installed these before to download anything then you should be fine.

If you want to check if you have them installed, follow these steps:

1. Go to start button
2. Go to settings
3. Go to Control Panel
4. Go to add/remove software (on xp)
or
4. Go to Programs and Features(on vista)

When I say go to, I mean to click on this option. After you have clicked on step 4 a list of currently installed programs on your computer will come up. Here you can see if any of these programs have been installed on your computer. If they are and you want to remove them then simply click on them and there will be an option to remove them, uninstall them.

If you want to check if they are running in the back ground at the current time, they will be sitting in your tray at the bottom right hand corner of your screen(on the start bar). If you hover over the icons with your mouse you will get a popup, this should tell you what each icon is for. If it turns out to be Kazaa, gnutella, then right click it and select exit or close. This should shut it down.

These software will not be installed on your machine unless you, or someone else has specifically installed them. So if you do not want them on your system I suggest following the above steps and removing them and you should be just fine.

These programs should also appear in start > Programs as well (if they are installed)

Please let me know if you need any more help, I hope I could answer your question competently enough.
