I am writing a novella and need help...!!?

I am as I said, writing a novella and its about a boy called Max and how he finds this little white pony and takes it in even though his family his poor. Thats all I know. I don't know where Max lives but he lives in a place far far away from anyone else. And I don't know how he finds the pony, or what the complication is. Its frustrating. I am not asking for ideas, I just want to know what YOU would do. That would probably help me.
