I can't get audio on my xvid video, please help?

I have a xvid video that I want to watch but all I get is video, not audio. I use gspot to find a codec but do not understand it. I went to Divx website and tried another codec but nothing happened. Please help if you had this problem or can help.
I have windows media player on vista if that helps. I am not super computer literate so if you could answer in layman terms that would be great, thanks
My speakers are on, other videos work that aren't divx
