on the way to work today i was watching a women walking her dog in the distance i noticed the dog got off his leash and ran into the street. I saw a car hit the chiuahau and take off speeding through the yellow light. as i approach the red light the dog only like 10 feet infront of me was flopping like a fish out of water.i assume it broke its neck and was trying to get up. i was completely mortified, sick to my stomache, crying as i watched this ordeal. as all the cars come to a stop i see the lady crying and screaming for her dog. she then runs in the street and picks up her dog and carries him home.

ive never been so upset
i would of got the guys license plate number but i didnt have my glasses i know someone had to have seen it and call the police since it was very busy.

what can i do to stop replaying it over and over in my head
and what do you think happened to the dog?
im only 17 and ive never seen anything so brutal in my life

I am so sorry that you had to witness such a terrible thing........i actually dont know what to say to you, except you have a heart of compassion both for the dog and the owner, and in a way, the person who hit the dog and drove off, will have to live with themselves for a long time to come........please know that unfortunately things like this just happen, just call up someone you love and tell them you care about them and try to think of better things..........it will take some time, but you will feel better........believe me, i think almost everyone here on the 'pet boards' has seen or gone thru an event that they have a very hard time forgetting, but we have to get on with our daily lives........we dont have much choice........i hope you have someone you care about that you can talk this over with and share your thoughts.........just know that i care about you too, and hurt for you.......i wont go into detail but something similar happened to a friend of my daughterinlaw recently, and all she could do was go and spend some time with her friend and console her by just being there for her.....life just plain hurts sometimes.....St from ohio

I'm so sorry that you had to see that. My eyes are filled with tears right now. What you should try and so is chase that image out of your head by replacing it with something pleasant. Every time you think of it, try to think of something else or do something that will occupy your mind. Maybe in honor of the little dog you could volunteer to work at your local shelter. They can always use volunteers to walk the dogs and just spend time with them. In time the image in your mind will become less frequent. You will find your peace with it.

I'm horribly sorry that you had to witness that. I too have seen animals fall victim to vehicles. The best thing I can tell you to do is keep your mind busy with entertaining stuff. Watch your favorite movie or TV show. Listen to some great music. Turn this tragedy into a positive thing. Maybe you can help teach people how to be a responsible pet owner. Again, I'm sorry for what you saw. Good luck!

I am sorry that you wirnessed this. The same thing happened to me except I was the lady with the chihuahua. We live way out in the country and we do not use a leash on our dogs because they are usually contained in a fenced in yard. One day I had one of my chis with me as I walked out to the mailbox. As I heard a car approach I picked up my dog so she would be safe. Just as the car got close, she jumped out of my arms and was hit. There was nothing I could do or nothing the driver could do but they took off as well, not even stopping to say they were sorry. It wasn't their fault but it would have been nice if they had showed some pompassion. The dog died instantly. It's neck was broken. It will just take time for you to forget what you saw. Well, not forget but maybe get over the horror of it. So sorry.

The dog probably died. Chihuahuas are so small and do not stand a chance with a car.
