I don't understand what's happening in Kuroshitsuji... ? (anime) WARNING: spoilers.?

I've just finished watching the first season. At the final episode, it pretty much shows Sebastian about to take Ciel's soul, but he appears again in the second season. I don't understand |: Right now I'm up to episode 3 of the second season. They meet up with the death god, Grell, but Ciel acts as if he has no idea who he is . o_O What's going on?
 
It's possible that season 2 might actually be a prequel, taking place before the first season. I'm really not sure, but I noticed that too... I suppose it's POSSIBLE that he forgot or something...

the second one is kind of confusing and theres like 2 super butlers...
