I would go back to the place you had it done and see what they recommend. When I had mine done the put a ring in it. I waited until the amount of time they told me to leave it in for before I put a bar bell in. And the first time I put my bar bell in, I was drunk (bad idea) and it hurt and I almost passed out. But ya, I would just call them and ask what they think, or just stop in there...

Well, the jewelry may just be sliding down and resting on your skin, causing the indentation. If that's the case, don't worry, it should clear up eventually. Or, the jewelry may be too small, and may be embedding. If that is the case, you absolutely need to go back to your piercer, and have him/her change the jewelry to something longer. You CANNOT do this yourself, don't even try it. Go to your piercer.

You can wear a curved barbell. Barbells are recommended over hoops (captive bead rings and circular barbells), because they get mashed around a lot less, and are less likely to cause rejection.

It's possible the piercing could be rejecting.
You need to leave it alone and continue doing what you're doing for about 6-8 weeks.
