I had a realistic dream about my house on fire. Could it be a premonition?

I had a dream that my house was on fire. Usually when I have dreams, things are very disjointed and out of place. For instance, if I am dreaming about something happening in my house I know that it is my house but it looks very different then it usually does. Well, not this time.
This time in my dream, it was the same house that I live in now with my husband and baby. It looked exactly the same as it does now, right down to the items in it and where I was sleeping when the fire woke me. In my dream, my husband wasn't home for some reason, and I had just enough time to grab my baby and leave out the back door before the fire got completely out of control.
I'm curious if this dream could have been a premonition (they run in my family to an extent). Has anyone else experienced a dream like this that actually came true at a later date? I'm a little on edge because I feel like the dream came to warn me that a fire was coming. Can anyone else relate?
 
There is no such thing as a premonition of future events. Claims of such ability reflect either coincidence or dishonesty. It is entirely possible that we have something in common; lying runs in my family.
 
What... do you go around thinking every dream you have is a premonition? Seriously, we all have dreams... even about crazy stuff like this. What makes you think your dreams are premonitions instead of just ordinary dreams? No offense but it is just a matter of common sense, really, dreams can and always will be crazy and may or may not make sense, case closed. They do not mean anything.
 
I can relate to vivid, realistic dreams, but I don't really know what they mean.
For example, last week I had a vivid dream of having a job interview in a city I never heard of in another part of the country. That's not a premonition, because I wouldn't be looking to relocate there. But the dream was very vivid with a topographical map and geological features like a body of water and an outcropping of rocks. I later found the city on the internet and was able to confirm the geological features.

In your case, the dream may or may not be a premonition. But, in the event it is, it would be best to review your fire escape plans, and also to check obvious things like wiring. Also make sure that your smoke and fire detectors are working and that you have enough of them to give early warning of any problem.
